Agronomic yield and starch properties of banana cultivars

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the banana cultivars for their agronomic yield and starch characteristics. experiment carried out in a randomized complete block design, with factorial arrangement two ('BRS Conquista' 'BRS Platina') crop cycles, three plants per treatment, five replicates. Fruit quality were evaluated. showed smaller fruit; however, it had greater marketable bunch weight than Platina'. Starches differed main physicochemical characteristics, except X-ray diffraction pattern (B type) phosphorus content (0.0058–0.0060%). Platina' stood its higher resistant (74.55%) that from isolated Conquista'. However, following characteristics: larger granules (34.74 µm), crystallinity (33.64%); less swelling power solubility (26.77 g g-1 19.21%, respectively); breakdown, setback final viscosity (67.06, 182.42, 341.39 RVU, respectively). shows favorable production characteristics processing obtain starch. may commercially justify lower yield. show desirable different industrial applications.
